  • Burn Night Volunteer opportunities

    ✴︎

    ✴︎ ,

There are various ways to help on burn night. Here are the differences between some of these opportunities.

    Interfuse Sand Team

This team of 12 people stands inside the perimeter with their back to the effigy. They are the last line of safety for the effigy burn. Training will be provided. Will earn 3 hours of volunteer credit. More information can be found at the top of the sign up here

    Interfuse Effigy perimeter

These folks maintain the perimeter of the effigy field. They also stand with their backs to the fire and keep people from edging closer to get a better view. They also maintain the space for the conclave performers to dance around before the effigy is ignited. Will earn 3 hours of credit.

    Conclave safeties

The number of safeties needed depends on how many performers there are. Must have one safety for each performer. They are positioned inside the perimeter with a wet towel they bring along and watch for any performance mishaps. They must attend a safety meeting which is being held at 3pm both Friday and Saturday afternoon. (Either offering, not both) This will earn them 3 hours of credit.

    Interfuse City Watch

This very special group is tasked with patrolling the city during the effigy to be sure no one is taking advantage of empty camps while everyone is at the burn. They work is coordination with the other safety teams. They will be provided access to golf carts and radios.

    Spark patrol

Smallest team of only 4 people. These folks will be stationed outside the crowd around the effigy field. A non-bunker/outer-perimeter patrol.

Volunteers will be equipped with compressed-air water extinguishers to work outside the perimeter and douse any embers or large chunks of burning wood which fly out into the city.

    Interfuse Medic volunteers 2023

Do you love helping others? Do you have basic first aid and CPR certification? If you meet those two requirements we would love to have you at the medic tent! Medic shifts will be 4 hours each, you will either be at the medic tent or out and about with a small backpack stocked with basic first aid needs. If you’ve volunteered as a medic before we welcome you back. If you’re new I will be reaching out to you to answer any questions. Some of the basic first aid we will provide at the medic tent include small wound cleansing and bandaging, providing salves for burns, ace wraps, electrolyte powder for those who are extremely dehydrated and support for any major medical problems. If at any time you feel concerned a medic lead or co-lead will always be available for you to ask questions!

  • Parking Passes and Volunteer opportunities

    ✴︎

Now most of us aren’t going to be able to make it on site by whimsically dancing through a magical portal of mushrooms. For those that are, lucky you, we can talk later.

For the REST of US, we need to think about what we’re doing with those big default world car things while we burn!

Interfuse has limited space, a lot of grass, and is known to get wet and muddy, so some guidance is helpful.

    • All vehicles may enter the burn for up to two hours, before returning to the parking lot. Please use this time to find your ideal spot or placed camp and unload. By the end of the two hours you need to return your vehicle to the main parking lot.
    • You may access your vehicle at any time in the parking lot. You can not however leave the grounds or parking lot and expect to return.
    • Any vehicle that is to be parked within the gates needs a parking pass. Our goal is to limit the number of vehicles within the burn. This improves our ability to respond to emergencies, decreases the default world intrusion, and generally makes a prettier landscape. In addition any parked vehicle needs to make an attempt to be decomidified.

    Volunteer Sign Ups are open!!

We would all like to take a moment to thank Star for her years of very public and very devoted work as the Interfuse Volunteer Coordinator. But as all things come to pass, she has handed the position off to her successor, Cree!

Please direct questions about volunteering to Cree or the department lead.Cree can be reached on social media interacting on our Facebook Groups as Cree Homestead.Beginning this year, volunteers who log 4 hours of volunteering with an official department and making sure to sign in, will be awarded with a link to participate in the presale for 2024.

    Theme Camps

Volunteering at Burning Man doesn’t stop with the volunteering for the Man. Volunteering can take on many forms. From helping your neighbor to tie down his testy shade structure, to lending a hand (and a hammer) to that artist gal down the street putting the finishing touches on her masterpiece, it’s all volunteering at Burning Man!

    • Camp registration will close Sunday night, 11:59 PM April 16th
    • There has been a minor adjustment regarding the Red Light (18+ age area), so now there are not all age camps across the street from adult oriented themes.
    • Make sure this area is well contained, and any risqué activities stay inside enclosed spaces.

    Volunteer Sign Ups are open!!

As of this writing this, 185 burners had secured their tickets by gifting their time and energy towards making this event take place and being awarded a presale invitation. When this program was began we planned to slowly increase the hours required. The objective to increase our amount of volunteers which will allow us to grow as an event.

The Covid-19 pandemic put a damper on that plans growth target, but it is time for us to rise to the occasion.

Beginning this year, volunteers who log 4 hours of volunteering with an official department and making sure to sign in, will be awarded with a link to participate in the presale for 2024.
